Last night the Roundtable welcomed The True Guru Todd Farino. We discussed the promotion of Chase Headley, the decline of Rickie Weeks and the return of Troy Tulowitzki, plus the Mets. There was some surprising pessimism on all three players.
When doing a roundtable show there are usually some quizzical disagreements. I was on the minority on most of the topics.
Troy Tulowitzki--Jay Sarney and Todd Farino are on the "nay" side; Eric Stashin and I are on the "yay" side. I am banking on his second half skill growth, taking the position that it is not a fluke but legitimate skills growth.
Rickie Weeks--Almost everyone was on the "nay" side with me as the lone dissenter in the long term. Worst case for him is Reggie Sanders, which isn't too shabby. Jay Sarney made a strong case though that my 20-20 expectation is a bit high.
Chase Headley-I do not understand the hype. He has a .301 BA in the PCL, which roughly equates to something in the .260 range. Taking into account his inflated BABIP (which Mike Podhorzer argued may not be a fluke) I think there is far more downside than people think. Then look at his park and the fact that 10 HR will be a best case and it looks like he will flop to me. Todd demurs to some degree, on the basis of his "amazing stroke."
It was really a great show with lots of good debate, and we did address the Mets in some detail. You can listen to the show from the player in the left column. Todd Farino also bet me that the Rays would not make the World Series, the stakes--well you will have to listen but rest assured they are not too appetizing. We will have to follow this one.
